The mask has completely slipped on the far-left of British politics. Over the weekend, the Green Party passed a sickening conference motion officially declaring Zionism to be a form of racism. Out of the delegates present, 1,022 voted in favour of taking up the motion, while 813 voted against it.
Let us call this exactly what it is: a flat-out, institutionalised Jew-hate motion.
To state that Zionism—the fundamental belief that the Jewish people have a right to self-determination and a safe haven in their ancestral homeland—is inherently racist, is itself an act of deep and malicious bigotry. It marks a dark milestone in modern British political history: the moment a mainstream political party officially coded antisemitism into its party platform.
A Sickening Obsession Over Environmentalism
The clue is in the name: the Green Party is supposed to be an environmental political party. Yet, they have allowed raw hatred of Israel to become the front-and-centre driver of their worldview. Just like what happened to Jeremy Corbyn, when this brand of obsession takes hold, it completely clouds out everything else in the world.
During the conference in Brighton, the sheer joy radiating from the delegates debating this motion was palpable. The far-left has found its unifying cause, and they are overwhelmed with happiness that they can now openly disguise raw antisemitism as legitimate political critique.
The immediate real-world consequences of this toxic vote are already unfolding. Israel has officially banned Green Party Leader Zack Polanski from ever entering the country again due to his party's motion. The message is clear: nations on the frontline of fighting extremism have no intention of importing the UK's home-grown haters.
The Hostile "Purity Test" for British Jews
Perhaps the most telling moment of the entire debacle occurred during an impromptu press conference immediately following the vote. Lee Harpin, the political editor of the Jewish News, pointedly asked a Green Party representative how the party views Zionists who disagree with the motion. The chilling, casual reply exposed the total lack of empathy or nuance within the party: "Zionists are racists. Forget them".
Green Party spokespeople, such as Ashok Kumar, have scrambled to defend the indefensible by claiming they are merely distinguishing between Judaism and a political ideology. They hide behind a facade of being "perfectly reasonable people" who just happen to "disagree agreeably" in a healthy debate. They even try to compare their motion to past political stances against ideologies like Hindutva or Jihadi Salafism, completely ignoring the unique, historical, and physical threat faced by Jewish people in this country.
The reality is far more sinister. This motion has absolutely zero practical impact on the actions of Benjamin Netanyahu or the state of Israel. Instead, it directly targets and impacts British Jews right here in Britain. Spokespeople for the motion have openly admitted on air that "this is not about British Jews", explicitly sidelining the safety, anxieties, and feelings of the British Jewish community.
When pushed on the fact that Jewish members at the conference required a designated "safe room" just to escape the hostile atmosphere, party representatives claimed ignorance. For a side of politics that constantly lectures the nation about inclusivity, they have effectively imposed a sinister purity test on British Jews, weaponising a divisive leftist trope that dates back to a discredited 1975 UN resolution. By declaring Zionism racist, the Green Party has casually branded millions of Jewish people across the globe as racists, making British Jews feel inherently unsafe.
The Rebirth of Cold War Soviet Propaganda
What the Green Party fails to realise—or wilfully ignores—is the historical origin of the phrase "Zionism is racism". This is not a fresh, progressive idea born out of modern social justice. It is an old leftist trope lifted straight out of Cold War history. Deplorably, the Soviet Union originally pushed and lobbied the UN to confirm a resolution saying "Zionism is racism" back in 1975. Tellingly, that resolution was completely rescinded in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed.
This entire rhetoric is a piece of communist, Soviet, Kremlin-engineered propaganda used to attack the West, and it is now finding its afterlife on the modern British left. Anti-Zionism has simply become a thin veil for antisemitism. They recycle ancient, thousand-year-old anti-Semitic blood libels and call it anti-Zionism to make it socially acceptable in academic and political circles.
The utter fraud of this position is exposed by the left's hyper-fixation on Israel to the total exclusion of the rest of the world. Israel is a country where Arab citizens have exactly the same rights as Jewish citizens, rising to positions as Supreme Court judges and sitting as elected members of parliament. The left has no issue with Pakistan being carved out as a specific homeland during the partition of India, nor do they protest the modern existence of Syria, Lebanon, or Jordan. They pick on the sole democracy in the Middle East—the safest place in the entire region for Christians, women, and the LGBT community—while remaining entirely silent on the brutal, authoritarian jihadi regimes that surround it.
The Radical Alliance and the Subversion of the West
The Greens are not acting in a vacuum; they are chasing a dangerous pattern forming across the country. It is driven by an unlikely relationship of convenience: the alliance between the far-left and radical Islamists. On paper, purple-haired gender ideologues and socially conservative Islamists have nothing in common. Yet, they are bound together by a deep hostility towards Western civilisation and a shared obsession with the "oppressor versus oppressed" framework.
This isn't actually about Israel; it is a movement to subvert the West and turn our society against itself. Look at how the pro-Palestine marches snaking through London every week routinely deface statues of Winston Churchill. Look at how viral TikTok trends immediately after October 7th saw British youth praising Osama bin Laden’s Letter to America. The far-left has aligned with radical elements to tear down British history and identity from within, using the Jewish community as their primary target.
The Greens are shifting their paradigm, attempting to dig their heels into a hard-left, anti-imperialist message to compete directly with elements of the Labour Party ahead of crucial local contests. We saw this pandering clearly at the Labour conference during Ed Miliband’s turgid speech announcing sanctions against Israel, which was met with deafening cheers from the crowd. The rot is still very much alive across the entire political left, so much so that former Green Party Deputy Leader Shahrar Ali has spoken out, warning that the party's perverse obsession makes it a genuine "danger to society".
Calling for Destruction Under the Guise of "Resistance"
The true extremism of the Green Party's motion is exposed in the fine print of what they actually voted for. The motion calls for a single, Arab-majority state across all of historic Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital, while explicitly endorsing Palestinian "resistance and liberation by all available means under international law".
Let’s be entirely honest about what this means. It is a direct call for the total eradication of the Israeli state. We already know the horrific reality of what happens when borders are taken down and extremist, Islamist, Jew-hating organisations take control—we saw it in Gaza in 2006, and we saw it manifested in the brutal atrocities of October 7th. The Palestinians have repeatedly been offered a two-state solution, including 100% of their core demands under Clinton in 2000 and again in 2008, yet they have rejected it every single time because they do not want a state alongside a Jewish state—they want a state instead of a Jewish state.
To endorse "resistance by all available means" is to give a green light to the massacres, rapes, and mutilations that occurred on October 7th. Yet, the police allowed massive pro-Palestine marches to proceed on the very day the Jewish community was trying to mourn their dead. The state previously banned political marches in areas like Whitechapel to avoid stirring up tensions in large Muslim areas, yet the establishment shows a complete double standard when it comes to protecting the dignity of grieving Jews. The Green Party MPs who claim to oppose this motion but choose to remain members of the party are just as complicit. There are no excuses anymore; these people are not well-meaning, misguided liberals—they are radicals and subversives who are actively hostile to open, democratic Western society.
Final Thought: An Insular Political Class Blind to Fairness
Ultimately, this entire debacle highlights a deeply troubling reality about the current state of British politics. The Green Party’s descent into institutional bigotry reveals just how insular, self-absorbed, and closed-off the modern political class has become. Four out of five of the Green Party's own elected MPs voted against this motion because they knew it would make Jewish citizens feel scared and unwelcome. Yet, the activist core of the party chose to bulldoze ahead anyway, entirely consumed by their own virtue-signalling, internal narratives, and foreign policy obsessions.
This is a political elite that has completely forgotten its foundational duty to the British public. Fairness dictates that a political party operating within the United Kingdom should prioritise the cohesion, safety, and mutual respect of the British communities it seeks to represent. Instead, we have a faction that treats the rights and anxieties of British citizens as a mere afterthought, secondary to international posturing and radical ideological agendas. When politicians care more about validating extreme activist frameworks and decades of foreign propaganda than protecting the basic right of British minorities to feel safe in their own country, they demonstrate a dangerous contempt for the very fabric of our society.
