I recently listened to a deeply unsettling debate that took place on a university campus (specifically UCLA), and it has stayed with me ever since. On one side was Mosab Hassan Yousef—the son of a Hamas co-founder who spent years risking his life spying for Israel to thwart suicide bombings. On the other side was a university student activist, completely convinced that his secondary textbook knowledge gave him the right to lecture a man who actually lived the nightmare.
What I witnessed wasn't just an isolated disagreement; it was a perfect, microcosm display of a naive attitude that is now a widespread, global phenomenon among many university students. When Yousef challenged him with hard facts, the student immediately resorted to calling him a "paid propagandist".
Name-calling and labels—where have we heard that before? It is the exact same pattern we see playing out constantly across the UK. The moment there is a disagreement in ideologies, or the moment someone expresses an independent opinion on national identity, culture, or border security, they are instantly branded as "fascists" or "racists" to shut down the conversation. It is a predictable, toxic pattern: when activists cannot handle objective facts or defeat an argument intellectually, they use weaponised labels to completely delegitise the person speaking. It became instantly clear to me that this student represents that exact same global wave of "useful idiots"—Western activists who have effectively been recruited by Hamas to serve as a public relations wing, weaponised by a dangerous terrorist organisation to create global chaos.
This dangerous naivety is now a pandemic across Western universities. These students are entirely disconnected from the harsh realities of the Middle East, living instead in an alternative virtual reality where moral righteousness is measured by social media follower counts.
The Manufactured Echo Chamber: Why They Never Want to Speak
While this specific university student on stage was a rare exception who actually sat down to try and argue his point, the reality on the ground at the actual street protests and encampments is entirely different. When you look at the masses marching through our cities, you see a completely different phenomenon: people who flatly refuse to speak, answer questions, or explain why they support Palestine.
They are highly skilled at creating and consuming a rigid, top-down narrative explicitly designed for others to blindly follow, yet the individual marchers are completely incapable of articulating their stance. If you approach them at a protest and ask them to explain their position or the history behind their signs, they shut down, walk away, or hide behind rehearsed chants. Within these protest circles and social media bubbles, they establish a dogmatic ecosystem where questioning the narrative is strictly forbidden. They want to impose an ideology on the public, but they never want to actually speak or defend it, because they know their manufactured world cannot survive the scrutiny of objective facts.
The Mathematics of a Mock Genocide
As I listened to the arguments, I couldn't help but look at the actual data. Activists globally throw around the word "genocide", but basic maths completely dismantles their narrative.
The State of Palestine has a population of roughly 5.7 million people. In the brutal, dense urban warfare of Gaza, total reported casualties range between 45,000 and 65,000 deaths. Critically, these numbers are provided by Hamas, who have absolutely no reason to underestimate these figures; if anything, they have every political incentive to inflate them to manipulate global public opinion.
Even taking these maximum numbers at face value, intelligence figures show that up to 50% of those casualties are active Hamas combatants. If Israel—a major military power—genuinely intended to commit a genocide, the death toll wouldn't be a tragic, localised fraction of the population; it would be in the hundreds of thousands or millions. The numbers prove this is a tragic counter-insurgency against a terrorist group using human shields, not a systematic eradication of a people. Yet, these "useful idiots" ignore the data because they prefer fashionable outrage over objective truth.
Two-Tier Justice: How Our Government Institutions Failed Us
This university delusion is being enabled by the total decay of our own Western institutions. Our governments have become so paralysed by "woke" ideologies that they have completely inverted basic fairness and honesty.
Look no further than the tragic case of Henry Nowak in the UK. When police responded to his stabbing, they were so blinded by the perpetrator's false claims of a "racist attack" that they actually handcuffed and arrested the dying 18-year-old boy, leaving him to bleed to death while he pleaded that he couldn't breathe. Our authorities are so terrified of being called "insensitive" that they let a victim die.
We see this exact same institutional cowardice on our streets every single week. Pro-Palestine marches are allowed to shut down cities, block infrastructure, and openly support terrorism while wearing face coverings—and the police do nothing. Yet, if ordinary citizens step outside to protest against illegal invasions or the collapse of border security, the government clamps down on them with maximum force. Our institutions are thoroughly broken, favouring aggressive ideological agitators over honest, law-abiding citizens.
The Arab Borders and the Ultimate Contradiction
Another glaring contradiction that these naive students refuse to face is geography. If the Palestinian cause is a supreme humanitarian emergency for the region, why do Egypt and Jordan refuse to open their borders or take them in?
Egypt tightly blockades Gaza at Rafah, and Jordan strictly bars the West Bank population. They refuse to absorb them because they understand the violent, destabilising nature of factions like Hamas and Islamic Jihad. If Palestine’s own Arab, Muslim neighbours want nothing to do with their radicalized leadership, why are Western university students acting as their ultimate defenders?
The final psychological contradiction hits even deeper. Activists claim this is a story of inherent "Jewish persecution" of an underdog. But the Jewish people suffered the most industrialised genocide in human history under Nazi Germany. If the Jewish national identity were truly built on blind, vengeful slaughter, why aren't the Jews trying to kill the Germans? They aren't, because Israel's fight is entirely about immediate, existential survival against neighbours who want them wiped off the Earth.
The Psychology of Perverted Morality: The Commentator's View
What really tied this whole experience together for me was the brilliant commentary at the very end of the recording. The commentator broke down exactly why these Western students look at the world in such a morally perverse way, turning black into white and truth into falsehood. He introduced several profound concepts that explain this psychological rot:
- The Concept of Klipah (Shells of Falsehood): This is the philosophical idea of evil disguising itself in the clothing of righteousness. These university movements might start with a baseline desire to help the oppressed, but they become entirely warped. It creates a broken framework where any group labelling itself a "victim" is automatically granted total moral innocence, completely absolving them of horrific actions like terrorism.
- Corrupt Compassion: The commentator noted that true justice requires both compassion and discernment (mishpat and chesed). When you detach compassion from reality and judgement, it becomes hollow sentimentality. As the ancient proverb warns: if you are kind to the cruel, you will end up being cruel to the kind. By showing unchecked compassion to Hamas, these students are enabling cruelty toward innocent victims.
- The Desire for Cognitive Ease: Young people today are desperate for identity, belonging, and a sense of righteous indignation to soothe their existential anxiety. They latch onto binary, oversimplified "woke" frameworks (oppressor vs. oppressed) because it provides an instant moral ego boost without requiring them to actually study complex historical truths.
- The "Exodus Reflex" and False Prophets: Humans naturally want to root for the underdog defeating the tyrant. But these students are suffering from an "empathy theft", blindly applying this story to a group that is actually the proxy front for a massive, anti-global terrorist coalition. They follow "false prophets" because the woke worldview rewards them with high social status for holding fashionable, elite views.
Final Thoughts
Listening to this debate made me realise that the civilised world is facing an abyss. These university students are defending literal terrorists who would strip away every single one of their rights—including women's and LGBT rights—in a heartbeat.
As the debate concluded, the reality on the ground won't be decided by how many social media followers these students have in their alternative reality. History will be written by the soldiers fighting those on the front lines. It is time for the civilised world to stop being intimidated, wake up to how easily our youth are being recruited by Hamas narrative spinners, reject this performative morality, and stand unflinchingly for objective truth.
